Alex Zuckerman was the force behind the SSR. His idea was to dedicate the 2nd Saturday of the month to a group of rides that was open to all club members. All would start in a group at the Orinda BART Station and ride the first several miles together along San Pablo Reservoir until breaking into smaller groups for rides at various paces and distances.
The first ride was on February 9, 2002, and I came along to memorialize it in photos.
Up until its 20th anniversary the ride has happened in most months and stayed true to the original vision. After Alex's death, the ride was renamed as Alex's Second Saturday Ride. (ASSR).
